Uttarkashi – My Journey to the Land of Gods

Uttarkashi, often called the “Kashi of the North,” had been on my travel list for years. Known for its spiritual aura, serene landscapes, and proximity to the Gangotri Glacier, this small town in Uttarakhand is a perfect mix of devotion and adventure. When I finally set out on my trip, I didn’t just discover temples and mountains — I found a place that felt like home in the Himalayas.

By the time I reached Uttarkashi, the evening aarti at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple was in full swing, filling the air with chants and the fragrance of incense.

Tips for Travelers

• Carry warm clothes, as nights can be cold even in summer.

• Keep cash handy — digital payments aren’t always available.

• Try local dishes like mandua roti and pahadi rajma.

• Respect temple customs and avoid littering in natural areas.

While Uttarkashi is a hub for pilgrims heading to Gangotri, it’s also a base for trekkers exploring routes like Dayara Bugyal, Dodital, and Nachiketa Tal. Adventure blends beautifully with faith here, making it a destination for all kinds of travelers.
